Don’t push – a review of nudge by Thaler & Sanstein

Most of us involved in web design and social media are what Thaler & Sanstein call choose architects, we present people with a range of options. But how do we get people to select the “right” option (both for them and us)?

This is what Nudge is about. It’s not about pushing people to a decision or forceing their hand but it’s about guiding them to make the best, or at least worse, decision for them.

Even if we’re not running an eCommerce site or selling CRM software we still present people with chooses, that we want them to make that are good for them as well as us, signing-up for news letters for example, or thinking about this or that issue in such or such away.

The book, by going through a number of case studies, giving examples both of when nudges have occurred and helped everyone and when they haven’t and it’s resulted in a poor deal for everyone, shows the user the power of nudges and the right way to do them

Nudge is available as a paperback and as a hardback book, and out now
