Gadget shoppers branded ’stupid’
OK disclaimer, I’ve worked and retail and have a lot of sympathy with this view. However the BBC have found that
“Staff at shops owned by the Dixons Stores Group have been caught insulting customers on a social networking site.“
OK this is a bit of a PR nightmare for Dixon, what is it to do? My guess is it doesn’t have a Social Media policy, and hasn’t got anyone to sign anything to say they won’t insult the company or shoppers on-line. So DSGi hasn’t got a leg to stand on.
However DSGi employees are not alone, Wilkinson employees cast doute over the mental health of their customers.
Even the BBC has a group where people cast dotes on the legitimacy of the BBC’s operation.
So what the answer? Well Dixon’s could and probably should start an internal staff forum, that however won’t stop the problem, but that and a Social Media policy that lets staff know the boundary would at least help.
However fundamentally none of the Dixons staff are wedded to dixons, if you pay low wages you get people who view their job as a throw-a-way job, and of course the real losers in this are the staff themselves, anyone checking the social media sites for a new employees history isn’t going to be very pleased at what they fine.
