The Apple iPad, initial thoughts.

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

No Flash support.

Yep thats right, right in the middle of Apples show case event of the year, this screw-up. The iPad’s browser doesn’t support flash.

As TechCrunch pointed out

But the device features browsing as a key element, and there are going to be plenty of people trying to access their casual Flash games and Flash-based video sites, only to be met with that frustrating icon.

Ports.

Err… one, the iPad’s dock, yep thats right no USB connection, no Micro SD connection, unless that is you buy an additional bit of hardware. How nice of Lord Jobs. Instead of building in two industry standards, users are forced to buy extra items with their new iPad. It’s not like the these standards are large and would take away from the oh-so-important design.

Functionality

As one commentator put it,

There is nothing new or revolutionary about this device, it’s just a very large ipod (not even iphone since you can’t call with it).”

nuf said.

So of course fanboys and wannabe will buy it, but for the rest of us? Throes of us who have to earn money and don’t worship SJ? I really think very few people will buy it.

I’d much rather have an xt2, at least that supports multi-tasking.

OK Google surely it’s time to pull out of the UK, the USA, Oz……

What a hero Google is, and how evil Microsoft is for defending China, after all that nasty Chinese government is not only censor the Internet but also breaking into the email accounts of throes who disagree with them.

Thankfully our nice democratically elected governments wouldn’t do such a thing… Would they?

Yes that right, throes nasty Chinese crackers (i.e. black hat hackers, not the food) use a backdoor to access the Gmail accounts a back door but there at the request of the US government. Oops.

Of course western governments have asked for such measures in order to protect the system, and just to keep an eye on throes influenced by people who want to disable the government, whereas according to a spokesman for China’s State Council, Beijing’s efforts to regulate the Internet were legitimate and it should be free from "unjustifiable interferences".

Of course China also has the Great Firewall of China, in order to prevent content is think of as wrong or immoral from being accessed by it population, where as Australia for example just filers (bans) topics such as Euthanasia, some Video games and thing it thinks of as Racist. Where as in the UK we just blocked some content in Wikipedia.

Now of course I’m not suggesting censorship in Italy is as widespread as in China, but next time you hear how evil the Great Firewall of China is remember how evil the Great Firewall of the UK, or the US, or South Korea is.

Full PS3 hack released

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

George Hotz, the famous iPhone hacker (he of the jailbroken phones) has just released his latest hack, full access the the PS3’s memory.

If you enjoy playing around with Hardware, and you feel like accessing an ultra secure (as in the US military uses PS3 hardware as a secure cluster) hardware, here’s what you’ve been waiting for.

Enjoy

The Apple Tablet is coming tomorrow. McGraw-Hill say so.

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

The Interesting bit goes.

“Yeah, Very exciting. Yes, they’ll make their announcement tomorrow on this one. We have worked with Apple for quite a while. And the Tablet is going to be based on the iPhone operating system and so it will be transferable. So what you are going to be able to do now is we have a consortium of e-books. And we have 95% of all our materials that are in e-book format on that one. So now with the tablet you’re going to open up the higher education market, the professional market. The tablet is going to be just really terrific.”

So fanboys, you can sleep easy tonight.
Oh yea BTW, if you want a nice multi-touch Tablet… you don’t have to wait.
