The Apple iPad, initial thoughts.
No Flash support.
Yep thats right, right in the middle of Apples show case event of the year, this screw-up. The iPad’s browser doesn’t support flash.
As TechCrunch pointed out
“But the device features browsing as a key element, and there are going to be plenty of people trying to access their casual Flash games and Flash-based video sites, only to be met with that frustrating icon. “
Ports.
Err… one, the iPad’s dock, yep thats right no USB connection, no Micro SD connection, unless that is you buy an additional bit of hardware. How nice of Lord Jobs. Instead of building in two industry standards, users are forced to buy extra items with their new iPad. It’s not like the these standards are large and would take away from the oh-so-important design.
Functionality
As one commentator put it,
“There is nothing new or revolutionary about this device, it’s just a very large ipod (not even iphone since you can’t call with it).”
nuf said.
So of course fanboys and wannabe will buy it, but for the rest of us? Throes of us who have to earn money and don’t worship SJ? I really think very few people will buy it.
I’d much rather have an xt2, at least that supports multi-tasking.

there's a reason for not supporting flash..
annoying popups..websites which seize control of a browser
html5 standard recently announced does NOT have flash either
so smarter web designers need apply who make standards based sites
as for online games…port them to an APP..not that hard and avoids the chance a virus/trojan will be hitching a ride as well
btw apples=no viruses!
let's keep it that way
no flash for ipad/iphone/ipodTouch continues the reliable user experience
fair point about SD/microSD
but allow for a few improvements over the product development cycle in the next three years…all part of the business model
if you don't like it..wait for the next model..simple!!
all apple fanbois, as you say, know this….even if the linux/PC geeks don't
diversity is a good thing…as are a wide range of opinions and uses for the device
evolving everyday…seems the target market may be the very young and the old who tarditionally do not use computers…or cameras..SD cards etc..
seen that way not so much a problem…..i have a MBP/ipof touch/iPhone..so not an obvious get
though swapping MBP13 for tablet for surfing..eyetv watching from computer in other room will be brill !!!

That would be Javascript not flash that seize control of browsers and forces pop-up's and AFAIK the iPad supports Javascript.

HTML4.01, XHTML don't 'support' flash that like HTML5 are standards not application.

fair point about porting, however Apple(s) = No viruses? What about the virus that hit's Jailbroken iPhones (see http://bit.ly/9kQTA5 ) or the viruses that infect Mac OS X ? (see http://bit.ly/cjUqXR ) anything that popular will inspire people to write nasty code to attack it, either for fun or profit.

Err. nope, I don't like it so it won't buy it, I can see the point of it as an eBook reader (thro does it support .PDF?)
